  • What can I expect in Salto Auditions?
Auditions are typically held in-person and last 1-1.5 hours. It consists primarily of classical ballet combinations – think your typical summer intensive audition. The audition is led by current dancers in Salto, followed by a short Q&A session with the Saltines.
  • When are auditions?
Early September, at the start of the fall semester (Sept-Dec) of each school year. If you are interested in joining for the winter semester (Jan–Apr), please fill out our interest form here.
  • Is there a dress code?
We do not have a strict dress code. We advise that you wear whatever will make you feel and dance the most confidently. This can be standard leotard and tights, or a tank and leggings. Although not prohibited, we do advise against wearing baggy clothes, as that makes it hard to see your technique shine through. Bring ballet flats (or socks/turners if you don't have flats), pointe shoes, and a waterbottle. Come with your hair out of your face. We will provide numbers for you to pin to the front of your leotard/tank.
  • Where can I learn more about Salto?
So glad you asked! You can find us at Festifall in early September (come and meet some of the members and get specific audition info!). Learn about our members and behind the scenes on Instagram, watch any of our previous performances on Youtube, and email with any other questions or comments.
  • When will Salto be at Festifall?
Come and meet Salto at Festifall on Aug. 28th, 6-8:30pm! Fill out the interest form in our menu for specific details like where you can find us.
  • When are auditions for Fall 2024?
Tuesday 9/3 from 9-11pm and Sunday 9/8 from 2-4pm! Fill out our interest form to get the latest updates regarding Auditions – Fall 2024.

A message from Salto:

Dear Dancer,

You've done the hard part (getting into U of M), so now it's time to catch your breath and look forward to your future! For many of us in Salto, dance is a spirit that refuses to leave us without the urge to move our bodies and connect with the music, each other, and the audience. Whether we choose to continue our dance education or chase new dreams, late-night Salto rehearsals become a constant in our busy lives as Wolverines. As we welcome new Saltines this year, we wanted to greet you with a few pieces of advice from our dancers:

Early is on time: Arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than the audition start time. Give yourself enough time to fill out the paper audition form, pin your number, warm up, and take some deep breaths. â€‹

Welcome curiousity: Don't be afraid to ask for the combination to be repeated! Chances are someone else has the same question, and we are on your side – we want to see you succeed and dance to your fullest capacity and that starts with having a mutual understanding of the combination.

Smile: It is so easy to get caught up in the moment, but remember to smile and show us how much you enjoy getting a taste of what it's like to be a part of Salto! â€‹Think positive – the body follows the mind, so be intentional with how you want to place your movements and present yourself.

Thank you for your interest in Salto – we are so excited to meet you!

xoxo,

salto Dance Company
